With an increase in the development and approvals of medications for complex are rare diseases, specialty pharmacists continue to offer expertise in medication management. The specialty drug market is experiencing significant growth, with over 80% of approved novel drugs now specialty drugs. This surge in demand for advanced treatments for complex conditions or rare diseases highlights the need for innovative therapies and for pharmacy professionals to be knowledgeable about them. PTCE’s 2025 Specialty Pharmacy Day of Education is designed to highlight the specific handling, distribution, and administration considerations of therapies that are often only available through limited distribution networks rather than through traditional retail pharmacies. Sessions throughout the day will highlight the role of pharmacists who handle these specialty medications. Kicking off the day, the keynote address will provide a crucial foundation for understanding current challenges of access and adherence affecting specialty pharmacists, focusing on best practices and proactive measures to ensure personalized care and team coordination. Subsequent sessions will delve into the nuances of specialty medication administration in retinal conditions, as well as respiratory disease.
